How to Negotiate with an Insurance Adjuster

Insurance adjusters are trained negotiators whose job is to minimize payouts. Never give a recorded statement without consulting an attorney first.

Do not accept the first offer — initial offers are almost always low. Respond in writing with a detailed demand letter citing your medical records, bills, and lost wage documentation.

Counter at the high end of your range. Be patient — adjusters often make better offers as trial dates approach. For claims over $25,000, strongly consider hiring a personal injury attorney..
